August Favorites

Hello everyone! I’m back from my vacation to Black Rock City and what an incredible (crazy) ride it’s been. Burning Man was an indescribable experience (luckily I have a few pictures for a later blog post) which I would highly recommend to anyone. Really! Sure the eccentricity of the place can be a bit daunting, but the level of openness and caring displayed by the burner community really makes every person who attends feel at absolute ease in their environment. I can now say that I fully understand why some people leave the event calling Black Rock City their home.

Moving on from that, you may have noticed a few trickles of likes and comments from me as I got back in action! And what better way to celebrate my entry into September than by reliving my favorites things from August!

The Mustache Blog Tag

I was recently nominated for the ‘I Mustache You Some Questions’ tag by the lovely Evgenia, who is just one of the nicest people. Her blog, Living On Annette, is filled with wonderful quotes, stories, and mouth watering-ly gorgeous pictures of food (recipes included)! So a huge thanks to Evgenia for the nomination – this post has been a fun little reprieve from the swell of last minute Burning Man preparations I’m currently navigating through.

Majora’s Mask DIY

Anyone who knows me knows I’ve been obsessed with the Zelda game franchise ever since my cousins first introduced me to Ocarina of Time in ’98. As a kid I ran around pretending to be a Kokiri by exploring the forest bordering my neighborhood and building temples in Arenia’s parents’ backyard. As an adult, I immediately got a tattoo to commemorate my love upon turning 18 (NO REGRETS) and at 25 after re-playing Majora’s Mask in 3D took on the most intensive paper mache project I’d ever attempted in my GD life. AND I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER WITH THE RESULTS!! Is it a perfect replica of Majora’s Mask? – Hell no-, but I worked hard on it so I love it. If anyone else is interested in trying this project I wrote a rough (like really, really rough) tutorial on what it took to make my mask.

Lost in the Woods

Spent a fantastic Monday hiking around Muir Woods with Arenia. We intended to get some shots for her animation project, Terra Lucis, and I think we did pretttty well for ourselves in that regard. I had wanted to show her this really cool valley overlook, but we ended up getting lost and just wandering around several hiking trails before heading home. Translation – we didn’t quite make it to our destination, but had a great time trying!

Oh also a tree fell while we were there and it was terrifying awesome!
